  1. Amoria For the past two thousand years there have been countless stories, legends, about the sunken island Amoria. Legend has it that the inhabitants of old, who did little more than indulge their own hedonism, had drawn the ire of the gods after centuries of heresy. The gods had little love for those who refused to acknowledge them and in retribution they sunk Amoria, ensuring that it would be forever lost in the depths of the Formorian Sea. The tale of Amoria served as a cautionary tale for the younger generation, warning them of the dangers that followed those who paid little heed to the gods. The tale was regarded as little more than a bedtime story for children, meant to forge them into proper followers of the gods. It came as a huge surprise when five years ago the island suddenly reemerged from the depths of the ocean. Intercontinental travellers who happened to sail by the rumored former location of Amoria were surprised when the landmass rose up from underneath them, effectively stranding them on one of the islands many beaches. As the sailors put their efforts into returning their ship to sea, several passengers took the time to explore the island in the meantime. Several hours passed and the sailors successfully removed their ship from land, but none of those who made an attempt to explore the island returned. The captain made the decision to wait until nightfall and leave with whoever was present at that time when they heard sudden screams coming from within the surrounding forest. One of the men who went out to explore returned, out of breath, dirty, with clothing in tatters and a horrified expression plastered upon his face. The man was visibly distraught and as he spoke the crew of the ship could make little sense of his jumbled sentences, but the apparent terror on his face as he gazed into the darkness of the forest and the few words that they managed to comprehend made them to ahead with their plans to leave before nightfall struck. Unwilling to sit around and wait for the dangers of the island to come out at dark, they set sail and returned to their homeland. Since then, as word about the legendary Amoria’s return spread out across the four great continents, countless pioneers have set out to go beyond the boundaries Amoria. Adventurers, treasure seekers, scholars and many others of various backgrounds have set out in search of the secrets held within the lost island that was once forsaken by the gods themselves. The Game This will be an open 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons game set in the island of Amoria. As you can see above, Amoria is ancient lost island, similar to the real world’s Atlantis, that suddenly reemerged from the sea along with all the treasures and secrets that it once held. The Player Characters will all be members of a currently unnamed explorer’s guild (if anyone has a good suggestion for a name, let me know) who have travelled to Amoria in pursuit of whatever you’d like. Knowledge, action, treasure, glory or anything else you can think of would serve as a valid motivation for your PC to find himself on the lost island. Every few days I will post a few quests on this forum, these will be jobs that NPCs would like to offer to the members of this explorer’s guild. If you see a job you will like to take up, you can gather a party of 3 to 5 people and set out to complete it. There will be no set schedule for the games; whenever you want to take up a job we will discuss a date that suits everyone who wants to participate in it. If anyone else would like to run a game within this setting, simply post your job in this thread and I will add it to the job board. Rules Players will pick either one of the jobs offered on the job board or pick a discovered location to explore, and pick a date that suits the DM and all the party members. Parties must have a minimum of 2 PCs and a maximum of 4. These jobs will be scaled towards the average level of the party, which means that as a group you will never take part in a job that you can’t complete. However, a level 1 character grouping up with a level 10 character does mean that the encounters will be very tough for the level 1 PC and very easy for the level 10 PC. The average level will always be rounded down. XP will be handed out as per the ‘Adventuring Day XP’ in the DMG. Which means that it will not be uncommon to gain a level per job for the first few levels. If your level is 1 lower, equal or 1 higher than the average level of your party you will gain an amount of XP equal to the Adventuring Day XP as per the DMG. If it is lower than the party average you will gain 1.5 times that amount and if it is higher than the party average you will gain 0.5 times that amount. If your character dies and doesn’t get resurrected, your new character will start out 2 levels lower than your first character, without any XP gained towards the next level up. Character Creation Rules All Races and Classes are allowed. The Standard Array will be used for ability scores (15, 14, 13, 12 , 10, 8), but if you would like to roll for abilities, you are free to call me over and we can set that up. When writing your characters background, remember to take his motivation into account. Why did he join the guild and what does he hope to achieve in Amoria? When it comes to equipment, we will use a modification of the GP rules. Everyone gains the max amount of GP as per chapter 5 of the PHB. A Barbarian who rolls 2d4 would therefore get an automatic 8 on his roll and receive 80 GP to purchase gear. However, all leftover GP after purchasing gear will be lost. The game will always be open and everyone is welcome to join regardless of experience. If you need help with character creation, let me know and I will give you a hand.
  2. Guidelines (also known as "Sean's ALSOs"): 1) Character creation requires GM supervision with regards to rolling for ability scores, starting gold, picking backgrounds and writing backstories. 2) Also the systems set in place by 5e reward remaining IC and proper roleplaying and as such metagamers won't receive any of these rewards. 3) Also a well rounded party consists of: a person who can heala person who can do area of effect damagea person who can tank up damage wella person who can deal lots of damagea person who can bypass obstacles easily4) Also Japanese athletes is an oxymoron5) Also most top sumo wrestlers are foreigners.6) Also feel free to make your character as weird as you'd like, as long as they adhere to the traditions of their race and class.7) Also I'll be running the official 'Hoard of the Dragon Queen' adventure to start things off and get familiar with the system. Don't ruin the experience by reading the book.
  3. Iris, Sanger, Amroth, Quarius, Tellorda and Lysander were sent to Central Avalon to infiltrate a cult that had been suspected of being involved with the rebels. Upon arrival in Central Avalon they see that daily life in the city had returned back to normal; no longer was it overcrowded and tense due to the public appearance of the Emperor and the citizens had returned to minding their own business.
  4. Dungeon Master Online In the year 2018 Virtual Reality technology has finally become a reality. By 2023 VR-Helmets became widespread, nearly every teenager in the world owned one, and 2025 marked the release of the first videogame that fully utilized the VRH. MMO developers quickly hoped onto what would be next big development in the MMO market. The world’s very first VRH MMO, Dungeon Crawler Online, was released in 2030. The game had its faults, but the novelty of playing an MMO using the VRH made it extremely popular. The DCO formula was copied and improved upon by many companies, but none of them managed to capture the magic of DCO, until the developers of DCO decided to release a sequel to the game. Dungeon Master Online was announced on the 10 year anniversary of DCO, in 2040, and it immediately went into Closed Beta. The major improvements made in the VR technology over the past 10 years allowed the developers, Sandstorm Entertainment, to create an even better game. After a year of intense Beta Testing, it was finally time to release DMO to the public! As expected millions worldwide purchased the game on its release date and rushed home to play the sequel to their favourite MMO. The sequel was released alongside a brand new, super advanced VRH called the VRH-X. However, minutes after logging in for the first time the millions of players realized that they were unable to log out! This caused mass panic among the players. What the hell is going on!? Background First of all: this game is heavily influenced by .hack, SAO, Log Horizon and similar stories. The idea of being trapped in a digital world was always fascinating and by making this RP set in an online DnD world the game can be very Meta, which makes it easier for me to create NPCs specifically to guide you (since this is more than likely your first time playing DnD). Player Characters will be people playing a High Fantasy MMO called Dungeon Master Online. Yes the name is intentionally dumb as shit. These players are all stuck in an online world with no means of being safely disconnecting (being pulled out of the VRH-X without shutting it down properly fries their brains). It was quickly revealed that dying in this game also makes the VRH-X fry their brain, leading to their death in the real world. Now fully aware of how dangerous their situation really is the players have to find a way to escape this digital world! The world of DMO is hyper realistic. Every NPC has been programmed with sophisticated AI to accurately replicate human behavior; they are even able to hold conversations with PCs. Time and weather work exactly the same way as they do in the real world. PCs get hungry and tired and have to eat and rest in order to operate optimally. Meanwhile in the real world the millions of DMO players were moved to several hospitals. This way doctors could oversee them while they are stuck in the game and make sure that the players don’t do in real life due to malnourishment or any other cause. Sandstorm Entertainment, however, has vanished without a trace. All its employees were either found dead or not found at all. No one knows who has done this, but many suspect the Director (Robert Morhaime) to have been behind this. Game Type The RP will be run with Dungeons and Dragons 4E rules. This RP will be closed at a max of 10 PCs (2 groups of 5), if any of these PCs drop out during the campaign, others may take their place. Ideally this 5 man party would consist of a Defender, a Leader, two Strikers and a Controller. Remember, if you're joining this RP it's expected that you either participate until the end of an Adventure or find a way to drop your character from the story. Create a character sheet here, feel free to use the character creation and basic D&DG guide here. If you need help creating a character, feel free to PM me. When creating your character you should follow the standard rules of DnD. Ability scores will be generated using method 2: Method 2, Customized: again you are given 6 numbers; 8, 10, 10, 10, 10 and 10, and 22 extra points you are free to divide among the stats. Depending on how your stats are, the points per score ratio could increase. For example: Raising a stat from 10 to 13 costs 3 points (1 point per score), but raising it an extra level to 14 costs 2 extra points. A table with the costs will be added to the bottom. I won’t be using a board for this RP, since it is supposed to be text based, but I will provide you with a map of the areas you’re exploring and during encounters I’ll provide you with a map with the layout of the battlefield, your position and the positions of the enemy. You don’t have to strictly abide by your characters speed score, but use it as a point of reference when it comes to how far your PC can get in one turn. Upon arrival in North Avalon they see that daily life in the city had returned back to normal; no longer was it overcrowded and tense due to the public appearance of the Emperor and the citizens had returned to minding their own business.
  6. The Guild known as Surreality United had decided on using a four story medieval castle as their Guild HQ. It was one of the many Guild houses that would eventually situate on Adventurer’s Island, but for now it was one of four that had already been built. The inside of the Guild house had not been decorated yet, other than the toilets on each floors and the extremely basic bedrooms on the top floor each room was empty and could not be filled until the Guild had repaid their debt. “I am going to ask you guys to stay on Adventurer’s Island for now. There has been some trouble in Avalon and it might be best if you avoided it for now. The Imperial Guards are doing their best to handle it, but if push comes to shove they might need as much help as possible from the registered Guilds and it’d be easier for us to request your help if we know where to find you.†After escorting the group into their house Sierra took a bow before exiting. “Oh, just so we’re clear. It wasn’t really a request. Stay put.â€

  8. With the teams evidently settled, Sierra herded them all out to the monorail track and left them to their devices. "Well, I dunno about all of you but I've only explored A, B, and C islands, according to the map." Dei admitted. "So I suppose we can either explore other places while patrolling, or visit known areas. E and H look to be the larger ones, so personally I'd vote we head to one of those first." Dei checked his skin and made sure he was in Windsoul form. He figured flight would be a more handy ability in a sudden pinch, whilst in the city, than his acid surge would be.
  9. Amroth looked at the map, seeing that they only had revealed part A, B and C so far, though the city was much larger than that. "Well since we've got some random, vague, instruction, I guess we should just patrol the city. I say we should head into part E first and see what's going on there." He checked his bow and arrows before stepping onto the monorail train, wondering what was waiting for them in the city. He looked at the other team. "We don't really have a way to communicate out there, so we're on our own, but if we hear or see anything that might mean trouble, we'll come running." He looked back at his own team. "If you're all ready, let's go!"
  10. After completing the first quest since the release of DMO the group of Adventurers has spent their time roaming around Winterhaven. Solitude has left them, preferring to go it alone for a while now that the first quest has been completed and left an open spot in the group. There weren’t many players who had dared to attempt the first quest, they had instead opted to grind random creatures until they reached level 2, which lead to this particular group to gain a small amount of recognition among the other players. One of the players who had decided to grind to level 2 by killing creatures was the Changeling Assassin Nam. When the group advertised that they were looking for someone to fill in the hole left behind by Solitude’s departure Nam became the person who was eventually chosen as the replacement. Rumors of a mysterious supergroup who had apparently already managed to reach level 3 circulated around Winterhaven. The names of these members weren’t mentioned by anyone, but they were known as ‘The Golden World.’ No one really knew where that name came from or why people called them that, though. With one more quest left in their questlog and many other adventures waiting for them it was time for the group of heroes to set out on their second adventure.

  12. Several groups of adventurers had undertaken the first quest in the DMO starting town, Winterhaven, but only a few had actually returned. The first of these groups was one referred to by the other players as The Golden World. All of these adventurers walked around the town showing off their fancy ‘Goblin Punter’ title, not even caring that it was extremely silly. They just wanted to show off. One of these adventurers was Aramachus. A Paladin who had managed to complete the quest with his former group, but had decided to part ways with them afterwards. After completing the first quest he had decided to find a new group to tackle the remainder of the quests available in Winterhaven. To that end he had formed a party with players who had reached the second level by endlessly grinding creatures in the outskirts of Winterhaven. He had heard rumors that both Ernest Padraig and Valthrun were interested in the retrieval of a certain something stolen during the bandit raid a while ago.
  13. It has been about an hour since the DMO servers finally opened and were immediately flooded by hapless gamers. Many were too scared to venture out into the world and decided to remain safely in the confines of their starting Town to avoid being killed by monster or Player Killer alike. Not all of the duped were craven; slowly groups started pouring out of the Towns in every direction, hoping that undertaking quests with allies would relieve some of the danger. Our adventure begins in the rural Town of Winterhaven, a starting area known for being one of the smallest Towns in Varuna, being home to but a few NPCs. Surrounded by the Silver Sea, the Alares mountain range and the Fall. One group of adventurers sick of inaction has recently formed within the walls of this town. Five victims of circumstance have found each other and decided to work together to get find a way to get rid of this dreaded world. Cha’ac the Warforged Warden, Iris the Elven Cleric, Solitude the Tiefling Rogue, Amroth Anárion the Elven Ranger, and Quarius the Eladrin Wizard have formed their first party in the middle of Winterhaven’s Market Square. Now it is time for them to set out and find their first quest!

This RP will be closed at a max of 5 PCs, if any of these PCs drop out during the campaign, others may take their place. Ideally this 5 man party would consist of a Defender, a Leader, two Strikers and a Controller. (EDIT: Actually, we could have a 6th PC. Would make the first campaign easy, so I'd have to tune it up a bit, but it shouldn't be a probem.) Remember, if you're joining this RP it's expected that you either participate until the end of an Adventure or find a way to drop your character from the story. 15.
