Gods Among Us

Long long ago, man dominated the planet. By fire, by tool, by knowledge, by wisdom, by intelligence. They built structures to protect and created tools to kill and survive. By using these means, man thrived off of other species. They ruled over them, hunted them, and often times lived in harmony with them. That is until the beasts appeared. A celestial body plunged through earths atmosphere and into the ocean.

Many people saw this astonishing sight and marveled at it. It was something very rare, but after the commotion died down, it was nearly forgotten. That is until a terrifying beast emerged from the water one day and slaughtered many people out fishing. It was only the first of many to come. No one knows how they breed, where exactly they come from, or why they chose earth, but that one meteor brought them and they covered the globe.

Man was no longer the dominant race. They had no means to fight these being of death and after failing many times to conquer, they lived in fear and dubbed the beasts Celestians.

After living in hiding for an extended period, one man had doubt about how evil the Celestians were. He sought one out and, whether by luck or fate, found one who didn't try to kill him. Rather, they began communicating in an awkward manner and together they formed a contract. At the expense of the Celestian's freedom, it gained increased power and a better understanding of the man. Together, they became a beacon of hope for humanity and a long period of back and forths between the Celestians, humans, and now Contractors began. All until they were swept away in the sands of time.

Presently, after many years of writing off the myths, man has found Contractors who may summon Celestians via their bond. Since this event, society has moved forward with these people. Contractors have become a symbol of power among the countries and war has begun with these new weapons several times. However, they are viewed by many as nothing more than tools, or just evil, anti-social beasts. This has create massive fractions all along the world. Now, there are Contractors who want freedom from the government, and those who are content with whatever lives they have, and those who side with the government and fight against the rebels. There are humans who advocate freedom for Contractors, those who couldn't care less, and those who think all are just beasts that should be locked away or used as tools simply to die in battle.

Where does this leave us? Who is right in this global battle for freedom and power? Where do you belong?

This RP is open for anyone who wants to join right now. It was originally started for Yajuu, Rippernik, and me. Now it seems it's just Yajuu and me, but feel free to join in the merry making.

Things to Know

Celestians are beasts of any nature you want. they don't have to be based in reality, though they can be if you so choose.

You do not have to RP as a contractor, or you can RP as more than just one character.

There is a certain system behind Celestians when you create them. They are ranked by stars 1-7 based on the deepness of their bond with their Contractor. As the bond deepens and the stars increase, so does the Celestians power and their appearance may change.

They are also categorized based on what they do, called Type. For instance, a flying one would be Type: Flying. Or a big armored one might be Type: Shielding.

The other category is Class. This is in two parts. The class is in a sense their alignment. Chaotic, Neutral, Lawful. For instance Class:Seraph Lawful or maybe Class:Reaper Chaotic

I think that covers everything, so anyone else interested in this? ^.^

I might be interested. Do you have a particular plot/storyline in mind already?

Might be interested too. What's the setting like, anyway?

We didn't really have a plot line to go with, though we've both made our characters already. As far as setting, it's modern day, but we don't really have a place set out yet. It'll probably be a military city though.

Also, I didn't get the reference x.x

It's a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure reference.

You should watch it.

Any guidelines for characters beyond the rules on Celestians?

Nothing too restrictive. Of course, no magic for your characters. And where Celestians are concerned, they don't have magic, but they can have abilities. Like the eel can use electricity, or the dragon can breath fire. They can do stuff like that, just not magic if you know what I'm saying. And you don't have to pick an affiliation, but that plays a large part in whatever story we choose, so ya. Here's my character for reference.

Contractor

Name: Lana Leopard (pronounced Leo-pard)(Goes by both Lana and Leopard depending on the people and place)

Age: 20

Appearance: Lana, despite her personality, has a very feminine body. She stands at 5'8 with a very womanly aura. While she is accustomed to frequent strenuous physical activities, her arms and legs are very luscious and supple. She keeps a thin waist from all the activity, but can't do much about her bust nor her hips. Though she doesn't throw around her charm, Lana can certainly pull off the fierce, dominating woman. She has shoulder length dark brown hair to match her almost tomboyish personality, but it goes well with her "secondary personality".

Affiliation: While she doesn't actively try go toward any side, Lana is a strong advocate for free will.

Celestian: Sable Alvoshe

Personality: Lana is a very free spirit. She has always been active as a child and that carried on into adulthood. She loves to seek out adventures and faces danger with gusto. She struggled to deal with settling down in one place as well as taking on serious responsibility that growing up brought. However, Lana has found that she more frequently has bouts of very emotionless seriousness. When taking on tasks that require her to be a mature woman she finds it easier to settle down, no doubt brought by her deepening connection to Sable

History: Lana grew up in a family that often advocated for the freedoms of contractors. While none of them were a contractor, her family always attended protests and fought for their freedoms publicly. Because of this, Lana grew up with the notion of freedom always in the air. She was allowed to play with whoever she wanted and made many friends, both contractors and not. She got part of her active personality growing up this way. Lana was never found to have the ability to be a contractor at a young age and by the time she factor was detectable, Lana was able to refuse the examinations. This was at the age of eleven. However, she didn't make contact with Sable until fourteen. At the time Sable appeared, it was gave Lana chills, but soon she got over the eerie nature of her Celestian and began speaking to it. Most of the time she would get emotionless responses, but they connected well, their bond deepening quickly. However, it was soon stunted as Lana's parents were killed in a government attack on a "peaceful" protest. While all the details weren't disclosed, Lana ended up living as an adult at the early age of seventeen. Forced into this situation she had to begin working and still trying to graduate from school put pressure on her. Until she finally grasped the reins of her life at the age of nineteen, things were hard. However, Lana began to use her mature appearance to her benefit and gained positive reputation with government and military officials, while also being an advocate for the underground contractors and those who sought their own freedom. Her bond with Sable also began to grow again when she discovered his interest in people and started to understand his personality more from her own experiences.

Celestian

Name: Sable Alvoshe

Appearance: Sable takes the form of a humanoid. It's rather tall, standing at 7'5, with arms longer in proportion to the rest of its body. The majority of its body is covered in something that looks like embalming wraps, tattered and worn all over with several tendrils freely flowing from different parts of the body. These are all tinged various hues of black and gray. They all seem to converge at the rib cage rather tightly. Sable has long black hair that falls past its shoulders. Around its neck is a black, scarf like appendage that has two separate ends. Sable is cloaked in a long robe like garment that has been decorated with various human items that he tends to collect and horde.

Stars Rating: 5 (On the way to 6)

Type: Dominator

Class: Ethereal Neutral

Personality: Sable is incapable of speaking words as is. This eerie creature shows very little emotion on a normal basis and stands aside, almost unnoticeable often times. However, it is very gentlemanly and kind. It takes care of it's contractor and is very obedient as well. while Sable is very calm and tame, it's rather creepy and observant, often watching things from a distance with whatever intent. Sable tends to be rather aloof but when needed, this being turns into something out of the depths of hell. Sable also has a great interest in humans. It tends to collect various items of interest and horde them in Leopard's dwellings. It watches people simply out of an almost child like curiosity.

Here's mine for comparative purposes:

Contractor

Name: Ryan Yamazaki

Age: 25

Appearance: Ryan is of average height with firm muscles built from military training. He has dusty black hair, cut short at the sides with an inch in length on top and let free, and startlingly bright brown eyes.

Affiliation: Government

Celestian: Zhilayastal

Personality: Growing up from a very young age in the Governments Celestian division, Ryan grew to be loyal to them as if they were family; at least to his local instructors and friends. Easily frustrated, no doubt instigated by Zhila’s personality, Ryan tends to blow a fuse before long.

Background: Ryan was discovered as a potential Contractor at the age of 5, having been taken to a government testing Centre by his parents. In poverty as they were, they accepted quickly when Ryan was taken away, thinking of it as a way of making their lives easier to live. From then on, Ryan was brought up in military camps and training schools. At the age of 11, he made first contact with his Celestian. Zhila was hardly helpful for the first couple of years, although the bond between the two grew even if it wasn’t very active.

Soon enough, when his school came under attack from a rogue Contractor, Zhila was forced into action and Ryan learnt that getting her angry or even just active was a bad idea. However, he kept talking to Zhila, disregarding whether he actually got replies from her, and the instructors were impressed in how quickly their spirit bond strengthened.

Celestian

Name: Zhilayastal; ‘Zhila’ for short.

Appearance: Zhila can be described as a mix between a dragon and a lion. She has the basic structure of a lion, but her paws are claws, she has a dragon’s snout, and she has three tails ending in vicious spikes instead of fluffs of hair. With the exception of the mane around her neck and the length of hair running down her spine, Zhila is covered by golden coloured scales, with a hard leathery belly the colour of fire. Size-wise, Zhila is about the size of a small horse.

Star Rating: 5

Type: Shielding

Class: Feral Chaotic

Personality: Serious in her very nature, Zhila is also lazy and unproductive; much preferring to take a lovely nap rather than engage in any meaningful conversation. However, should she be goaded into action, either by Ryan or an opponent, then she riles up quickly and intensely.

Contractor

Name: Alice Hendricks
Age: 16
Appearance: Alice is short and slight of build, and perpetually wears a pair of dark-rimmed glasses she thinks make her look uncool (unfortunately, she's blind without them and contacts make her eyes itch uncontrollably). She has dirty blonde hair that falls to shoulder length and green eyes.
Celestian: Maximus Octavarium
Affiliation: Government
Personality: Alice is easy-going, cheerful and kind at heart, but also rather immature, reckless and prone to acting without thinking, often requiring her Celestian to rein her in. She's also prone to flights of imagination, often acting like she's a magical girl from 'one of her Chinese cartoons'. Luckily for her long-suffering companion, she's usually got the sense to listen to good advice... usually.
Background: Alice grew up in a small hamlet far from any major Celestian activity, and despite having affinity as a Contractor, never went through the government screening program and had only the vaguest idea of what Contractors and Celestians were. Thus, when she first made contact with Maximus Octavarium at the age of 11, she never realized she had bonded with an actual Celestian, since Celestians 'were, like, six stories tall with, like, scales and fangs and atomic breath and stuff', and certainly not unimpressive-looking, harmless snakes. She kept him around anyway, because Celestian or not, he was still a talking snake, but when Max began manifesting his powers through her, she was convinced she'd become a magical girl instead. Max has long since given up on disabusing her of this erroneous notion.

A few months ago, she ran into a Contractor working for the government, and at Max's advice, turned herself in without a fight. She was recruited into the government's Celestian division, and despite seeing other Contractors on a daily basis, she is still firmly convinced that Max is just a snake that happens to be able to talk.

Celestian

Name: Maximus Octavarium ('Max' for short)
Appearance: Despite his supposedly impressive-sounding name, Max is probably among the least imposing Celestians on record. He takes the appearance of a small, thin checkered tree snake with tiny nubs for fangs about three feet long, and is usually seen loosely coiled upon Alice's shoulders like a rather unfashionable scarf.
Star Rating: 4
Type: Shielding
Class: Benign Lawful
Personality: Max is the voice of reason of this Contractor partnership and frequently tries to advise his Contractor on courses of action least likely to get the both of them killed. As he is small, weak and completely incapable of harming anything larger than a reasonably small rat, he highly values the bond he has with his master, but frequently becomes exasperated by her reckless actions.

Contractor

Name: Leonidas Nikopoulos

Age: 31

Appearance: Tall, grizzled and hard, Leonidas can usually be found wearing a grey duster above a utilitarian shirt and jeans combination.

Affiliation: Government

Celestian: Titan Dune

Personality: Leonidas is a self-proclaimed "defender of justice". In terms of morality issues, he will usually decide to take the side of the "greater good", even if it means hurting or killing someone on the other side. He is also a staunch pragmatist, believing in achieving his goals using whatever means necessary, even if it means playing dirty or using underhanded means. Despite having the powers of his Celestian, Leonidas prefers to hold a few ways to kill off his enemies without Titan Dune's help, as he believes that over-reliance will lead to complacency.

Friends of Leonidas will often describe him as a casual, easy-going individual who has a terrible sense of humor. In his free time, he enjoys watching reality TV shows, playing poker, and practicing at the firing range. He has a secret craving for Chinese food at night and he plays the guitar occasionally.

History: Leonidas is a senior member of the FBI, having joined as soon as he had reached the age of 18, following his father's footsteps. At a young age, he showed a natural talent towards firearms, and could fully disassemble and reassemble an assault rifle under 30 seconds. He was trained in espionage, interrogation, investigation and squad movement techniques, and was assigned a Celestian after he completed his training. He proved his worth at the age of 25, in what was commonly known as the "Maxwell Incident". Since then, he has been considered one of the more reliable agents, and has been working to handle the more "sensitive" issues around the world.

Celestian

Name: Titan Dune

Appearance: In his natural state, Dune takes the form of a shroud of sentient fog that materializes around Leon. It is white in colour, and opaque enough to shroud his figure from people standing a fair distance away. However, he rarely takes this form. Most of the time, Dune can be found hiding inside Leon's duster, which is inlaid with metal strips lengthwise. While he is within a metallic object, Dune cannot be seen.

Stars Rating: 5
Type: Empowering
Class: Sarcastic Neutral

Personality: Despite his imposing name, Titan Dune doesn't like being exposed and prefers to hide himself inside metallic objects, particularly Leon's duster. He is snarky and sarcastic, and can often be heard complaining about Leon's actions or choices. Despite this, Dune actually respects Leon, having worked with him for a long amount of time now, and often trusts him when everything goes wrong.

Name: Montessa Stroheim

Age: 28

Appearance: Neat and formal with silver braided hair, complete with authentic leather trenchcoat and suit.

Affiliation: Private Corporation (Cayman Industries)

Celestian: Jormungand

Personality: Perpetually smiling, Montessa is whimsical and almost mercuric, capable of switching between polite banter and full blown psychopathic laughter in an instant. She enjoys her job a little too much, and has developed a notorious reputation within the company. While not completely unprofessional at her job, she often gets distracted easily, especially by anything she deems cute and/or interesting.

History: An ex member of the FBI, Montessa first discovered her Celestian when she was a mere preschooler, it first manifesting when she was relentlessly bullied by two boys, completely annihilating them without a trace. Quickly recruited and trained by the government, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked she took part in the operation known as the "Maxwell Incident", which started when a group of contractors went rogue and rebelled against the government. While fighting the rebel contractors, her Celestian went haywire, ruthlessly tearing apart both friend and foe (including part of the scenery), traumatizing her deeply and completely changing her behaviour. Unable to return to her normal life back in the FBI, she faked her death and spent the next few months roaming the country in solitude. She would then be contacted by a man called Micheal Cayman, CEO of Cayman Industries, one of the largest corporations in the world, and gave her a job as an agent in his company, offering her far superior training to help control her unpredictable Celestian. Fast forward 6 years later, she now works as one of the top agents in Cayman Industries, performing duties that are less than legal in nature, such as sabotaging rival companies, or straight out assassinating their CEOs.

Celestian

Name: Jormungand

Appearance: Jormungand takes the shape of a large serpent with the jaws of what seems to be an anglerfish, its huge jaws seemingly able to swallow anything. It's covered in sickly black ichor, and has small beady yellow eyes. It is capable of vanishing and reappearing at will, although it prefers to stay unseen.

Stars Rating: 5
Type: Consuming
Class: Insane Chaotic

Personality: Constantly snapping its jaws, Jormungand has a hair trigger temper, prone to suddenly lashing out and trying to devour the closest target on sight. Added with its ability to appear randomly, it took Montessa close to 3 years just to be able to train it into submission and summon it at will. It has no other personality other that being akin to a rabid dog.

Fantastic. I like the characters. Just a note, the Celestians can be "put away" or "stored" by the Contractor and summoned back, so they don't always have to be present. However, the whole staying hidden thing is all right if they want to be out all the time. Sable is around a lot, but it tends to go creepily unnoticed while it observes :3 Just wanted make sure everyone knew that just in case I didn't mention it.

Does anyone have any ideas on where to start the plot line? I'm not drawing a blank really, but I haven't thought of anything good yet either.

Also, this RP is now closed. ^.^

Timey: Not a bad idea. we might be able to role with that. Maybe is a rebel plot though to stop the governments oppression of Contractors

West: Shut up! I get that reference XD We really did try to think of a better name that Contractors but all three of us were pulling blanks for a better term, so it just kinda fell like this.=P if you come up with something better though say it.
