Surreality's RP Synopses

10 posts in this topic

So one day you were sitting behind your PC, bored out of your mind, no games to play, no shows to watch and no RPs to post in... What do you do? Correct! You either read or write a synopsis here!

But Mr. Zilla, what’s the point?

I dunno. Maybe you want to advertise your RP? Maybe you’re looking for an RP to read but would like to know what you’re getting into first? I am sure there are plenty of reasons to write a synopsis and exactly zero not to. Correct, ZERO.

Enough pesky questions. In this thread everyone is allowed to post a synopsis of an RP they are currently participating in. Just make sure that no one else already posted a synopsis for it. Other than that there are no limitations! Anyone can post any synopsis for any RP.

Uhh, okay Zilla-san, but how should I post a synopsis?

Easy, everything should be fine if you just follow this template:

Roleplay Title and Rating: Random Title [R]
Discussion and Roleplay Thread: Links to the Roleplay and the Discussion thread
Genres: What genres apply to your RP?
Participants: Who are you RPing with?
Characters: Who are you RPing as?
Inspiration: What inspired this RP?
Themes: Does this RP cover any themes?
Synopsis: What is the RP about?

See! Easy. Now get synopsising. Also all non-synopsis posts are obviously not allowed~

Roleplay Title and Rating: Becka [R]

Discussion and Roleplay Thread: http://www.surreality-rp.com/topic/341-becka/

Genres: Horror

Participants: HerculeHastings, Ethereal

Characters: Lorne, father of Becka; Clare, ghost buster

Inspiration: I had a fantasy one day of a man who had arrived at an airport all alone, with nobody to welcome him and wait for him. I imagined at first that it was because his girlfriend was dead, but as I was writing this roleplay I discovered it was cooler to have a child ghost. Ethereal wanted a horror roleplay, which was how I tweaked it to become a ghost story.

Themes: The theme of learning to let go, and also whether you want to risk everything to protect the one you love.

Synopsis: Lorne is a father who had lost his daughter suddenly, while he had been overseas. He visits the playground where she used to play on her own, waiting for his return. He tries to imagine how she must have played, all by herself there, when it gradually becomes apparent that Becka does still exist, and is still haunting the place. This has however also drawn the attention of a ghost buster, Clare, who may or may not have problems of her own.

Roleplay Title and Rating: Sorcerers [NC-17]

Discussion and Roleplay Thread:
Discussion -- http://www.surreality-rp.com/topic/463-discussion-sorcerers/ (not much to see here, most discussion happens in a clandestine, frequently derailed Skype thread)
Genres: Action, Fantasy, Modern-day, Epic Clusterfuck
Participants: Seanzilla, TriOctium, Kyo, Wstfgl, Alisyn, Shadow, Noia and Darkwater
Characters: See here
Inspiration: Fate/Zero, Fate/Stay Night, Gamaran, Magi, Hoshi no Samidare

Synopsis: The Lord of Magic, Theodore Grant III, is quite possibly the most powerful man in the world -- the one man who has been gifted with power over the Cosmos, the sentient force that embodies the universe, and all the power and knowledge it entails. However, even a living god has his limits, and he has finally stepped down as Lord after sixty years of rule. This succession won't be a smooth one, for the Cosmos has given him one last command: To select the 13 most powerful, knowledgeable or promising Sorcerers on the planet, give them carte blanche to use whatever means necessary to eliminate all 12 of their opponents, and unleash them upon the unsuspecting city of Duchess, England in a battle to determine who is crowned as the next Lord of Magic.

So begins a tale of intrigue, bloody magical combat, forged alliances, conflicting ideals and more icy alpha bitches than one can shake a wand at. And Scotch -- can't forget Scotch.

Roleplay Title and Rating: Hell Street NC-17

Discussion and Roleplay Thread: Discussion & Roleplay

Genres: Fantasy, Action, Adventure

Participants: The ever sexy Ice and the oh so handsome Shadow! And of course the Erogenous Enigma.

Characters: The enigmatic and sexy demoness Seyerna Kaierstin; fierce and yet friendly demon Sharder Bloodrin/Storm Reclair; and the curious and mostly mechanical but still somewhat human Jun.

Inspiration: Writing! Seriously, I wanted to begin a new roleplay so I sat down and tried to write up a basic plot, I failed, but the end result looked a lot like an intro post so I went with it! Ice and Shadow came along and I couldn't be happier with their interest and their epicness! This roleplay had no predesignated plot or story beyond what was noted in the first post, we weren't even sure in what era it was taking place! The three of us just kept rolling with the punches though and it has been amazing so far. I'm so excited about this roleplay, I'm always so eager for new posts!

Themes: It is a modern day fantasy perhaps a wee bit to futuristic with a potential apocalyptic undertone.

Synopsis: The roleplay is about this facility that is bringing demons from Hell into the mortal plane, i.e. Earth wherein the mysterious Seyerna is lured into this trap after being a citizen of Hell for centuries. On the other side of the gates the world of Earth rushes to her but perhaps not in the most ideal way as in within minutes of her arrival she in unconscious. She wakes to meet a demon in hiding who goes by the name Storm, and a human Jun who seems to have trouble stomaching what the facility does with their demon captives. The three of them endure much hardships together as secrets and bonds are broken. Seyerna wavers in and out of her dark memories of Hell, dancing on the cusp of sanity. Jun struggles to keep up with the electricity sparking between his two demon companions all the while painfully reminded of his own pains at the sight of one who speaks so openly of Hell and it's horrors. Storm is torn between acting as a cold, unfeeling demon or more like the caring humans he's spent his life pretending his was one of.

Seyerna was a strange demon in life and when she gave up everything it seemed only natural to her but she had left behind people who would not so easily see her go. To save the world she surrendered her very soul, but at the first opportunity she snatched back her mortality and returned to reality to find herself in a less then desirable situation helpless and confused, trapped in this new world where she is forced to rely on those around her who do know what they're doing, who understand what those damn metal boxes on wheels are! The demons of Hell were not companions she happily made friends with, instead she had spent centuries struggling against the rift raft of Hell so when she comes face to face with the people of Earth she is a little out of her league, the harsh and cruel ways of Hell no longer apply and she must stumble her way through this new and strange world.

A demon in hiding, who has lived among humans for centuries, charading around as one has found a soft spot in his heart. A demon who most people would pass by and have no idea he had the strength to lift cars. A hard past leaves him broken and unable to so easily accept the bond of another demon when presented. Storm struggles with Seyerna as a demon, her time in Hell makes it difficult for them to connect, a companionship between them is a strong possibility, but they seem ever at odds with each other.

Thrown between these two demons, their electricity conducted through his mostly mechanical form Jun finds companions where he least expected it, in the very creatures he is instructed to kill, these two seem to accept him for what he is, no shame, no judging. His unique body is one of interest to these demons, not fear or revulsion. However, coming to terms with their demonic needs may prove more challenging then he first believed. Jun was born human even with his own history of torture, the violent and rather sporadic ways of his demonic companions will throw him for a loop time and time again. It's a good think his mechanical hands have a strong grip!

The three of them stumble their way through a rickety friendship, facing their horrors as a unit all the while standing at odds with each other. The humans in this new world are not the nervous, demon-fearing beings Seyerna remembers and when the humans decide to rise up against the demons and force their will Seyerna finds herself on the other side of the playing field. When for so long she had found friends and companions in humans, she must forsake her beliefs of them and instead draw their blood.

Roleplay Title and Rating: Gratuitous Mecha Carnage II: Electric Boogaloo (Yes, that seriously is the title. It's my fault.) [NC-17]

Discussion and Roleplay Thread:
Discussion -- http://www.surreality-rp.com/topic/537-gratuitous-mecha-carnage-ii-electric-boogaloo-needs-1-2/ (not much to see here either. I do love my pointless easily-derailed Skype threads.)

Genres: Action, Sci-Fi (incredibly soft), Futuristic, Black Comedy

Participants: TriOctium, Wstfgl, Seanzilla, DayDreamer

Characters: [AGENT] (AS-01 [AGENT]), Werner Von Stroheim (AS-028 Juggernaut Hecatonchires)Rainn Winters (AS-037 Blitz Ronin), Takeshi Fukagawa (AS-08 Seraph)

Inspiration: Gundam 00, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Assassin's Creed, TF2, Full Metal Panic,Gintama, and whatever else is the rip-off flavor of the day

Themes:  It's right there in the title. But in addition to that... Revenge, Vengeance, Revengeance, Revenge with a Vengeance, Ridiculously Over-The-Top Weaponry, Black Comedy, Equal Opportunity Recruitment Policies, Dogs

Synopsis:

It is 2051, and judging from the lack of epic space odysseys, equitable, utopian free states or groundbreaking anime series unveiled over the past 40 years, humanity's scientific, economic and cultural progress seems to have hit a brick wall. However, humanity has gotten quite a lot better at the one thing we're indubitably good at -- killing each other for stupid, petty reasons -- thanks to the ExoSuit, a revolutionary advance in personal exoskeletal armor that has rendered many previous paradigms of war obsolete. The ExoSuit makes a man stronger, faster, far more durable, and unbelievably more well-armed, driving an arms race between the world's nations to build and equip their soldiers with stronger, more advanced ExoSuits -- a scramble to prove their military superiority akin to the proliferation of the superpowers' now-dismantled nuclear arsenals a century before.

However, every ExoSuit on the planet is a derivative of a single design, produced by a single French company known as FutureTech. And within that design was encoded a hard-wired vulnerability -- the Black Box Code, a code that would trigger a black box inside every known ExoSuit, causing it to shut down. The mechanical workings of the ExoSuit were not well-understood by anyone outside FutureTech, and as a result, that once-small company now held a proverbial Sword of Damocles over the nations of the world -- With a single transmission, they could almost completely shut down the mechanized forces of any country of the planet. This made FutureTech CEO Darius Mauro essentially the most powerful man on the planet, and effectively above the law -- using the threat of the Black Box Code, he managed to cow the United Nations into giving him carte blanche to pursue his true goals. FutureTech's legions of hired guns enforce this shadow reign, and while many chafe under this oppression, they are powerless to fight back without similarly potent weapons of their own.

However, a challenger approaches in the form of the shadowy paramilitary organization known only as Vengeance. Using incredibly potent armored suits of their own design powered by the mysterious Genesis Particle, they strike at the foundations of Mauro's power base, hoping to break FutureTech's iron grip on the world and restore freedom to the world.

A noble goal, perhaps, but can their motley team -- including but not limited to a womanizing former FutureTech ace pilot, a mentally-unstable cyborg child soldier, a JSDF deserter undercover as a bum in middle America and... whoever the hell [Agent] really is -- bring down the deadliest man on the planet before their own shenanigans do themselves in?

Roleplay Title and Rating: Dragons of the Four Kingdoms [R]

Genres: Historical, fantasy, action/adventure, war and strategy

Participants: HerculeHastings and DayDreamer

Characters:

I mainly play a reckless, rough and uneducated man named Ma Yan. He starts out as a soldier in the forces but promotes to higher ranks later in the story due to his devotion and headstrong fearlessness. He is also accompanied by his dragon companion, Long Mu Xue. Muxue is a female Wood dragon, meaning in RPG terms she is a "healer" dragon. Muxue is stable, intellectual and virtuous -- and in those days it means she is willing to let Ma Yan take the lead while she advises him from behind.

DayDay plays Jiang Mu, the lord of the kingdom. He also plays a myriad of NPC advisors. Jiang Mu is a young but competent war leader, and his dragon companion is Long Shui Chang, a Water Dragon, which is in RPG terms the "melee" dragon.

Inspiration:

This roleplay is a direct crossover of Naomi Novik's Temeraire series and Romance of the Three Kingdoms. We added a fourth kingdom, which claims superiority over the aerial forces, as compared to the land and sea capabilities of the other kingdoms. Basically we explore what happens when you superimpose war dragons from a World War I setting into Chinese wartimes.

Themes:

There are definitely undercurrents of romance (the 2 dragons that is) and we may also explore other romantic options, but all these will be mired by the restrictions of those times, in which love is not a necessary condition for marriage. Aside from that, it is an action/adventure roleplay at its forefront, so expect plenty of action sequences, intelligent strategising, alliances and betrayals, politics and history. Lots and lots of history.

Synopsis:

In the midst of civil revolution throughout China, where the 3 kingdoms of Wei, Shu and Wu fight it out to claim supremacy, a small kingdom, unknown to the rest, is born, led by the capable and ambitious Jiang Mu. By his side is his trusted dragon companion, Shuichang, and a fleet of dragons and commanders. In a land of uncertainty and suspicion, the Zeng kingdom attempts to establish a foothold, aided by the straightforward and faithful Ma Yan. However, in a land where morals are thrown out the window, and every man strives only for himself, will Jiang Mu's little dream survive, or will it flicker out like so many brave commanders before him?

Jiang Mu learns that running a kingdom invites more problems than benefits. Not only are bigger, more savage countries (such as Cao Cao, with his own fleet of monstrous dragons) eager to do him in, the internal turmoil among his advisors also reaches fever heights, with advisors betraying their secrets and escaping into enemy territory, and sneak attacks and sabotage awaiting their every move. And even after the Zeng Kingdom has seized power, he finds to his disappointment the gaping maw between ideals and reality, and that it can be so much easier to succumb to corruption, rather than fight it...

This roleplay tests the mettle of our protagonists, forcing them to make painful decisions, question the extent they will go to reach their goals, and prove the remarkable tenacity of the human mind and spirit, when the situation before them looks grim and hopeless. Watch as they turn the tables and face fate directly in the eye, in the tumultuous times they were unfortunate enough to be born in. Watch as thousands of dragons fight against each other, each with their own specialties and abilities. It is a feast for all fantasy and historical fans!

Witness the Saga of the Four Kingdoms unfold.

Roleplay Title and Rating: Fairy Tales For Sophie [NC-17]

Discussion and Roleplay Thread:

Discussion = http://www.surreality-rp.com/topic/987-fairy-tales-for-sophie-discussion/

RP = http://www.surreality-rp.com/topic/994-fairy-tales-for-sophie/

Genres: Realistic, Fantasy, Action, Adventure

Participants: Miss Mishal, a.k.a shelmii

Characters: An author named Peter Thompson and a mysterious wanderer named Silas

Inspiration: The idea for this roleplay, of telling a story within a story, was the result of a 'what if' conversation I had with a like-minded battle buddy during my days at basic training. We both loved to write, and over the course of several weeks, we fleshed out ideas about a story where a man's daughter found comfort in his tales. The idea was meant to be converted into a novel, but I instead brought it here.

Themes: In both time periods the story covers, a common theme is that of loss and acceptance, and learning how to cope with the sometimes overbearing entity we know as human emotion.

Synopsis: The story tells us about an author named Peter Thompson, a single father raising his only child, a daughter named Sophie. Together, they're attempting to rebound from the stunning loss of their wife and mother, Samantha Thompson. Over the past year, Peter has been sharing stories with his daughter before bedtime, which he sees as therapeutic and beneficial to their sometimes strained relationship; through this bond, they grow stronger and stronger everyday, in hopes of moving on from their troubled past.
