STORY

Everyone new what time it was, both Orisian and human. It was time for another batch of young adventurers to try and find the map, the map that would bring the human race their salvation. Also, it was a time when the Orisian Army was on high alert, protecting their Earth-like planet from human rebels who would rise up and try to find the map and leave. So, the Map Races began, and with it bought death, turmoil and a map that might never be found, unless...

Then, one day you come along, ready to find this map. With your young and agile body and your quick wits, it looks like you'll be the one to find it and secure a so-called solar "paradise" for your tribe, whatever it may be. But beware, young adventurer, the path is dangerous and full of death, lies and other bad things, so keep your friends close and your blaster closer...

THE SETTING

As you already may have guessed, this role play takes place on an Earth-like planet by the name of Oris.

digital_universe_9-480x360.jpg

It is a particularly medium-sized planet, with most parts being frozen, also it is orbited by the moon Jargon which is, like our moon, barren and lifeless.

The Orisian Empire is ruled by Farrell Umbert II, who, like most Orisians, hates humans. Not only is he responsible for the deaths of thousands of them, he is also known to be very violent and is agitated by the slightest of annoyances. But, he rules with an iron fist, andas long as the humans are oppressed, he will gain the adoration of the Orisian people.

Next, we have the four tribes of Oris, which are:

  • Sulphur- They are a bloodthirsty lot and thry have a belief that they are the chosen ones to find the Map, and so they choose those who are twelve (yes twelve!) and over to look for the Map, and they threaten to kill those who return empty handed and will hunt down those who run off with it. But, they are a very able-bodied group and those that hunt for the Map are said to be on the apex of physical fitness and that would aid you in hand-to-hand combat. They believe that the Map is in the east, where the tall and ominous mountains of Oris lie.
  • Trinity- They are an enlighted group of people who believe in enriching the mind, body and soul, hence the name. They choose to only send those who are complete in these three categories as they deem them fit to go. While they are weaker than Sulphur, their morals and intelligence set them apart. They believe that the Map is buried somewhere in the Orisian Empire's capital of Tamber.
  • Libra- This tribe is balanced, which means that they have no special traits that set them apart. But they are the descendants of the first humans who were taken to Oris in 2013. They send those who are eighteen and over to find the Map. Also, they believe that the Map is in the north, where it is as "cold as a witch's heart", as they would say.
  • Titan- They dominate the field of technology and science, and they use this to their advantage and are able to create amazing things that can aid them in finding the Map. However, they only take those who are able to pass a series of tests and then they will accept you. They believe that the Map is on the moon, Jargon.

HOW THIS WORKS

So basically this role play is about trying to find a map that is hidden somwhere (each tribe thinks it's in a different location on Oris), and that when the map is found, it would guide you to a ship and then to the solar system (Paradise), but you have the choice whether or not to go on your own or to carry your tribe with you. Also, I intend for this RP to be a "roguelike", which means that I will calculate your customized character's choices and present you with your results, and, the ever-lingering threat of dying is in the air.

Your basic equipment depends on the tribe you belong to, i.e Sulphur has mostly melee weapons like swords and axes, Trinity uses staffs and pole arms, Libra uses whatever they can find and Titan uses blasters and other forms of hi-tech. However, you are able to use any weapon you choose, it is just that the level of skill would be different.

(I plan to add the character sheet tomorrow, which would be in my timezone, but if you are interested, you can PM me with questions. Also, any corrections to grammar mistakes would be appreciated.)

(Edit)

CHARACTER SHEET

You character sheet will look something like this:

  • Write your sketch of the character you are portraying in essay format, it may be 150 words or more (just don't go overboard)
  • Please include your character's name, age, tribe, a short description and other things you may deem necessary to add.
  • Since this is a roguelike, it is recommended that you create more than one CS (you can only have up to four).

Maureen is one of the high priests of Trinity, a woman of fifty who looks startlingly younger. She has her lips pressed in a thin line, smiling only slightly when courtesies dictated, but otherwise expressing little emotion but calmness and composure. She is intelligent, as all high priests are expected to be, and is rumoured to be adept at magic. However, she has never needed to show her skill on Oris, for only the people at the lowest echelons of the tribe are expected to defend their elders.

She is always seen with her blonde hair pulled into a tight bun, and dressed in purple robes. She carries a staff encrusted with a blue jewel in her pale, thin hand. Her entire figure, for that matter, is frail and skinny, and her skin is fair, almost pale. Her eyes, however, stare out with a determined, strong gaze, one that may cause sinners to falter.

She agreed to lead the team from Trinity in search of the map, and takes the role of the grand arbiter, the leader who will decide on all courses of action.

----------------------------------------------

Trevelyan is one of Maureen’s closest aides, and also said to be the best tactician the Trinity tribe ever has, even at the young age of twenty-seven. He adheres faithfully to the Trinity ideal of harmony among body, mind and soul, but unlike Maureen, is not completely successful in the synthesis because he is unable to shake off a preoccupation with what other people think of him. He worries about potential disasters, and if he is not contributing enough to the team, or if he is contributing too much and is being taken for granted. When he talks to people, one has a feeling that he is putting on a façade, saying the things people want him to say, in an effort to avoid offending them.

Trevelyan is not dressed in the robes of the high priest. Rather, he wears a long black coat and black gloves. He is the only Trinity tribesman without a staff, for he spends much of his time poring over maps and making up tactics.

----------------------------------------------

Evelyn is the third and last member of the team from Trinity. She is a convert, having switched from the Sulphur tribe which she was born in to join Trinity instead. She is twenty years old and has been with the Trinity tribe for five years now, thereby having proven her allegiance.

She had been found injured and lost in the Trinity tribe, having wandered away from a losing hunt with her Sulphur tribesmates. Maureen had gone up to her and healed her without questioning whether she was friend or foe, explaining instead that it was moral to help all who were vulnerable and helpless. Evelyn was enlightened and henceforth decided to cast aside her violent past and learn the new ways. She was a hardworking student, naturally interested in cognitive pursuits, and was a joy to have in the tribe for her vivacious personality and sharp wit. She also secretly fell in love with Trevelyan.

She is an adept fighter, not having forgotten her past training with Sulphur, and is relatively strong both in melee as well as healing. She has short brown hair, cut into a bob, and cute puffy cheeks.

-----------------------------------------------

Isebella is a lone seeker from Titan, with an eccentric fashion sense even by Titan standards. She has her customary laboratory goggles on her forehead, with her hair tied into a ponytail. The rest of her is, however, very unique. She puts on blue lipstick, and wears clothes that have sharp poking edges at random spots of the fabric. She is also a fan of big weapons, and is never without her gigantic cannon on wheels, which she affectionately names Cannie.

Personality-wise, she charges headlong into any venture with flair. She always wants to be the first to try anything out, and does not seem to need sleep or food, just rushing energetically from one spot to another, unfazed by any challenge.

No one can tell if she means to get the map for herself or for the tribe. She may be warm and friendly with people she meets, but if anyone slips up or reveals their incompetence, she is merciless in stamping them out of the competition. Only the fittest can survive, and she considers it her duty to ensure that the weak do not linger for too long.

These are all some great Character Sketches, HH! Will you use them all at once or will you have the rest as backups just in case one dies? Also, I just need two more people two sign up.

Well, if no one else is going to sign up I guest I have two choices: 1) I shut down the RP or 2) You can use all your characters at once, HH.

I wouldn't mind, I guess, but this roleplay was meant to be crowded, wasn't it? I feel lonely now. T.T Maybe you should edit the title with OPEN: MORE PEOPLE NEEDED so that people don't assume it's a closed roleplay.

I hate to be premature, but based on the replies above this feels a little time sensitive.

I don't have any character sketches yet, but I'm definitely interested in participating! I intend to have preliminary sketches posted within 24 hours, if it's alright.

It's alright, it's good to see that more people are joining my RP. Also, HH, in hindsight, I should have done that.

Here we go! I hope the length is okay!

By the time she reached the age of sixteen, Rynn had long convinced herself of her status as Sulphur’s most valuable warrior. This attitude – perhaps fostered by her rank as Major of her assigned squad – was supported by little more than her remarkable skill in a fighting style similar to krav maga; a skill that had allowed her to survive the brutal street fights that occurred frequently in Sulphurian settlements. Having earned her stripes when she was still very young, her military enlistment at the age of twelve was less an expectation and more a natural progression. The news of the Map Wars three years later had ushered her into a brief period of intense training before she was given her expected promotion.

Now, Rynn stands five feet, three inches among a squad that is four strong, herself included. Her dark, coarse hair is kept in a short and somewhat wild pixie style that echoes the excited light in her eyes. She maintains an upright posture, her muscular shoulders squared above her hips. She is enthusiastic about the Map Wars not because she anticipates glory and honor after her victory, but because she is eager to show off her skills on non-Sulphurian opponents. Her subpar intellect does not allow her to comprehend the greater implications of The Wars, but her lack of understanding in no way lessens her desire to fight.

-----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----

Eli is Rynn’s only superior in their squad, both in rank and age. At eighteen, he is among the oldest and most skilled soldiers in the Sulphurian army. Long periods of thorough combat training have given him the disposition of a war-torn veteran, despite having never seen a battlefield, as well as proficiency in several types of hand-to-hand combat with heavy emphasis on ninjutsu in the final years of his training. His skills in stealth and concealment made him a valuable prospect in the practice of guerilla war, and his ability to think a plan through before its enactment – an ability not shared by many other Sulphurians – each contributed to his appointment as colonel.

Massive in comparison to his second-in-command, Eli stands at six feet tall and is almost always seen with his hands folded neatly behind his back. He is lean and lithe rather than built and muscular, his close-cropped hair emphasizing the narrowness of his face. A reticent individual, he often catches himself daydreaming about potential combat situations rather than participating in combat simulations. Though his arrogance is considerably more tame than that displayed by Rynn, Eli considers himself a capable individual whose skill level excuses him from most training sessions. He is admired by his subordinates and respected by his superiors, and regards the Map Wars with tired indifference that, on occasion, peaks to mild interest.

-----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----

Born to a clan of individuals who consider themselves the only “pure†humans left on Oris, Alex is a nervous boy of twenty-three whose social anxiety is eclipsed in severity only by his sense of superiority. The baby of a family with considerable political clout, he easily could have avoided the Libran draft but, in an attempt to reach the humbler roots of his Earth-stranded ancestors, decided he had best embrace his fate as an average military man and make the best of the situation.

An individual with no particular combat skill, it quickly became clear that Alex’s sole purpose within the Libran army was to mend uniforms. Political clout often led to considerable wealth and considerable wealth often led to considerable fashion sense, leaving Alex with an uncanny ability to sew anything from full-body scarves to petticoats. This talent carried him as far as the medical response unit where he soon rose to the position as head of the Quick Fix team whose specialty was, unsurprisingly, stitching wounds incurred in battle. Feeling that he had yet to complete his patriotic duty as a pure human, Alex also taught his subordinates to construct interesting little pouches that seemed like First Aid kits on the outside but had a fun little surprise on the inside. Said kits were absolutely not created for the purpose of sabotaging the Sulphurians, Trinitians, or Titans. Absolutely not.

-----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----      -----

A research-oriented individual, Apollo volunteered to join the forces of Trinity not because he desired combat or success, but instead to investigate his hypotheses regarding the other races of Oris. His open-minded, energetic approach to learning more about his fellow Orisians was fitting of his young age of twenty-three, and often led to ridicule at the hands of his fellow Trinitians. Thus, Apollo was inspired to abandon many social niceties and employ a somewhat more detached form of communication. His enthusiasm was restricted to the privacy of his modest home which, more often than not, doubled as his research facility and which, more often than not, was also home to his closest and most trusted friends.

Almost always dressed in deep emerald robes and accented with gold jewelry, Apollo carried himself with a sense of dignified importance that can only be found among the committed scholars of Trinity. What he lacked in combat ability he made up for in knowledge and resourcefulness, often joking that his most dangerous weapon was the pretty face in front of his sharp mind. True, with wavy, shoulder-length blonde hair and bright green eyes, he was an individual often gazed upon by males and females alike. His involvement in the Map Wars is minimal at most, with superiors often placing him on the more elite teams to serve as an advisor and guide.

Those are some good sketches, Sarabee! I guess we can start now, if no one else wants to join, that is.

Hey Zelios! I've seen your thread!

Sarabee, do you want to post first?

Also, I've made a thread under Farewells laying out that I won't be able to post very often from now onwards. I'm really sorry, Zelios, cuz I know you were anxious to start this up. That said, this roleplay's the first on my list to post in when I do get back to posting, so I haven't forgotten you, and am still very psyched for what's to come.

I'm not promising to join, it sounds interesting though, but I need to understand what 'roguelike' means. I've never heard this term before.

Also, is this roleplay like a competition, all the players essentially facing off against each other to get the map?

1. The term 'rouglike' describes a subgenre of games (video games or otherwise) that follow the path of and old text-based adventure game called Rogue, in which the player must go into dungeons, kill monsters and so on. Also, a main feature in the game was permadeath, which means that if your character dies, they are gone for good.

2. Yes, just think of the Hunger Games or any others that may come to mind.

I've posted! So sorry for the wait! And for the crappy post. I think I'm just rusty, not having posted for a week. Future posts will be smoother once I'm back into it.

Allow me to apologize profusely for my silence these last couple of weeks. My schedule of late as been wonky at best, promise this won't happen again. Hope what I posted is alright! I expect I'll have faster and higher quality replies in the future, as I see my schedule opening up generously in February!
