God Inside The Machine Discussion

19 posts in this topic

The year is 108VB (Voyage Begins), 108 years ago the human race set sail...across the stars!

When our planet finally died, 1 Billion people were chosen to ride the enormous mobile space station, Midgard. This space faring mega-city was designed by our planet’s top scientists and engineers to send us on a mission to find an uninhabited world on the other side of the Galaxy, a world we call Valhalla. Although the original passengers of this vessel have died, they have continued their civilisation through their children, who blaze on through the stars to find our new home.

Such a large vessel of course needs people in control. Asgard are the keepers of this city, the rich and powerful, overseeing the population and maintaining balance and order. When citizens become unruly or endanger others, the Asgard call upon their elite special forces unit to neutralize the threat. This operation is known as the Operational Division of Intelligence, or O.D.I.N for short. They are the peace keepers of Midgard, and there are few who can oppose them.

Over the years, in order to maintain dominance over the growing bouts of crime over the city, O.D.I.N were issued specially crafted combat suits, known as Aesir. Each Aesir is unique and their strength and power varies. Usually Aesir take the shape of normal clothing, but transform into epic fighting suits that imbue their wearer with unimaginable power. The existence of the Aesir is a bit of a mystery, as even with our amazing technology, the Aesir appears to dwarf it in complexity, and appeared rather suddenly. The truth behind their manufacture is known only to the scientists and researchers in Asgards secret research facilities.

Within the last 10 years, a resistance group has formed within Midgard, a faction known only as LOKI. Their purpose is to bring down Asgard and their oppressive regime, however, they also believe that our destination of Valhalla is a lie, and that we are all slowly travelling towards our doom. Asgard have managed to subvert their mission thus far, and have branded LOKI as terrorists and turned them into villains in the public eye.

But does LOKI speak the truth? Are hurtling towards the end of our own existence? Only Asgard truly has the answer. LOKI may never find the answers they seek, unless some convenient protagonists show up and TURN THE TABLES.

Name: Mephis Ragnor

Age: 19

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/EKorbv5.png

Personality: Impulsive, Outspoken, Honest, Loyal. Mephis is quick to temper but her heart is in the right place. When relaxed she is outgoing, adventurous and can be quite fun to be around. She has a habit of teasing people.

Bio:

Mephis comes from the Ostheim district, widely known as the slums of Midgard. Mephis had a rough start in life, as an orphan she has never really seized the opportunity to prosper. Her confrontational attitude and outspoken nature has left her with very few opportunities. However Mephis is a strong and athletic girl who is tougher than most men and women her age. Although her school grades imply that she isn't very bright, the truth is that she is simply not very academic.

She currently works in the Guzzlr energy drink dispensary in the the Huvec District, where most factories and industrial buildings are. Her life is fairly ordinary, and incredibly dull. She works to put food on her table and pay the rent in her crummy apartment, and she makes too little to have savings. Hiwever at least Guzzlr give her free energy drinks so it's not all bad!

Her life is flipped upside down when she acquires a lost Aethir, and finds herself in a war between O.D.I.N and LOKI. Mephis must decide which side are the good guys, or if she even wants to get involved.

Aethir: Apex Valkyrie

Description:

Apex Valkyrie is an incredibly powerful Aethir. When worn it changes shape to fit the frame and style of the user, as is the case of most Aethir. However when activated, Apex Valkyrie becomes a full body, blue and silver armour with veins of neon lights up the breastplate and shoulder guards. Headgear appears over her head like a pair of white wings, with a tranluscent blue visor over her eyes that displays vital statistics of her enemies and their Aethir.

When Mephis wears Apex Valkyrie she becomes incredibly strong and quick, to a limit she has not yet managed to reach, if there even is a limit. The suit provides advanced stamina to the user as well as increased ability to sustain damage and to some degree a healing factor.

Apex Valkyrie is able to summon a Godhand weapon, Mjolnir. Mjolnir is a polearm that can change it's head from a huge warhammer, an equally large axe head, and a single edged, curved spear for thrusting attacks. Mjolnir can absorb electricity from nearby power sources to create ranged energy blasts.

Overall not a lot is known about Apex Valkyrie. The little information around suggest that it was only a prototype Aethir, and the extent of it's power is yet unknown.

Name: Noah Winter

Age: 21

Appearance: http://i.imgur.com/D14FUnY.png?1

Personality: Despite his gloomy appearance Noah is actually extremely outspoken. Loud even. He regards himself extremely highly and will endlessly taunt anyone who opposes him. Which can either be humorous or annoying, depending on your point of view.

He also is a bit of a womanizer.

Bio: Noah was borne into a high class family in the richest district of of Midgard, Weimar. He was raised a privileged brat which led to him being quite condescending to everyone, especially those who trained with him in his fencing classes.

The socialite life was not for Noah. While he was a huge fan of the attire he grew increasingly bored with spending all his time talking about ‘poor people problems.’ All he actually cared about was going back to the gym, picking any of the dozen weapons they were trained with and whacking anyone dumb enough to be his practice partner.

One day when he was 19 years old, his father brought him to his office; an O.D.I.N. facility located in the center of Midgard. Noah always knew that his father was a big shot, but he never dared ask what it was the old man actually did. He was surprised to learn that Soren Winter was O.D.I.N.’s Director of the Engineering department and he wanted his son to follow in his footsteps.

This meeting was cut short when terrorists attacked the facility, killing dozens and injuring even more. Noah and Soren feared for their lives, but that’s when Noah noticed the suit of armor hanging in a glass case behind them. He told his father that he would use it to protect them and despite his father’s warnings not to touch the suit, Noah put on the Krieger Tyr.

As if it was his second nature, he wiped out the terrorists attacking the facility and saved dozens of lives. His father quickly ran to him was the ordeal was over to ask if he was feeling alright, if he was feeling any insatiable urge to fight.

Noah simply shrugged. That’s how he’s always felt.

Aethir: Krieger Tyr

Description: The Krieger Tyr is a Aethir that normally takes the shape of a slim fitted black suit, white shirt and navy blue tie. When activated it transforms into a white suit of armor with navy blue accents.

The Krieger Tyr was developed two generations ago by O.D.I.N.; it was one of their attempts to boost the capabilities of the Aethir. In order to achieve that they heavily boosted the capabilities of the armor, beyond what was considered safe for their current level of technology and experience. The result was an Aethir far ahead of it's time, with the drawback that the mental strain of the machine was enough to make the pilot go insane. The Krieger Tyr constantly feeds the user information in order to ensure that the users uses the Tyr to the most of it's abilities. It essentially makes anyone who wears it the perfect warrior in exchange for their sanity. In addition to that the armor greatly increases the user’s physical abilities and also provides protection against almost any kind of attack.

The Aethir also grants the ability to summon the Tyrfing and its saya. The Tyrfing is a white katana with a high-frequency vibrobalde. The blade is reinforced with a powerful alternating current and resonates at an extremely high frequency in order to weaken the molecular bonds of anything it cuts. The saya contains a rifle mechanism, a loaded magazine and a trigger located beneath the Tyrfing’s hilt. By pulling the trigger the sword is effectively launched out of the sheath to increase the speed and power of iaido techniques.

The Tyr is most well known for its bloodlust. Once it has ‘tasted’ blood, it will go drive until a murderous rage, forcing him to quench its thirst by killing its enemies. This side-effect of the Tyr ensured that it was deemed unsuable until Noah demonstrated that he was capable of using it without succumbing to it.

Name: Frederick Von Stroheim
Age: 23
Appearance: Not lifted from Super Robot Wars honest
Personality: An honorable, dedicated and loyal soldier who has faith that Asgard means the best for its people. He tries to stay professional and collected in battle due to his idolization of the chivalric code, and will show mercy to defeated foes and respect to worthy ones. He is also an avid collector of items and knowledge of the Pre-Voyage era, resulting in his speech sometimes sounding antiquated and eccentric to others.

TL;DR graham aker ripoff

Bio:

A 'designer baby' with most physical flaws stripped away by genetic modification, Frederick was born to the Von Stroheims, a notable family that had contributed much of their sizable wealth to backing Asgard's cybernetics programmes. Initially, he lived in idle hedonistic luxury, but always felt his true calling was not in the meaningless soirees and hollow politicking of the upper classes, but on a battlefield, like in the ancient tales of chivalrous knights.

However, in a world where humans on the battlefield had been supplanted by robotics and inhuman Aesir supermen, there was little hope of him ever becoming one of their number. Most Aesir were entrusted to human weapons trained from birth after all -- some pampered Aesir fanboy couldn't possibly make the cut. However, he decided to prove them wrong and volunteered to join ODIN at 18. He somehow impressed the directors of ODIN during his trials, and they accepted him into their ranks. He recently completed the years of training meant to mould him into a capable Aesir user and eagerly awaits his chance to serve the cause.

Aesir: Stahl Siegfried

Description:

The Siegfried is a particularly strong Aesir, renowned for having defensive powers that allow it to survive attacks that would cripple or destroy lesser Aesir. In addition to enhancing its user's physical abilities hugely, it can generate energy barriers within two meters of itself that will repel almost any known modes of attack, but has a weakness in the form of the external generator mounted on its back. Frederick does not regard this as a design flaw, however, as he says those who turn their back on the enemy are doomed to die regardless.

In its untransformed state, it resembles an early 20th-century military dress uniform in black and gold. When transformed, it becomes an ornate suit of armor in a similar color scheme. The Aesir has been used enough that it's developed a personality of sorts -- 'Siggy', as he calls it, acts like a young, rather sharp-tongued teenage girl prone to outbursts of anger.

The Aesir can summon the Godhand Balmung, a huge single-edged sword with several high-impulse rocket thrusters embedded into its pommel and the back of its blade, greatly strengthening its strikes and giving rise to its reputation as a blade none can stop, but putting such strain on the Aesir's frame that only a gifted pilot in a powerful Aesir can control it.

Would be kinda boring if we were all the good guy rebels. More interesting for people to be like "we were the bad guys all along!?"

Plus Mephis isn't part of LOKI or ODIN. She won't know who are the "good guys" in that scenario. Actually if everyone ends up wanting to be part of ODIN we could have it that Mephis is recruited fairly soon in, and we paint LOKI as the bad guys until secrets start to become revealed. Sound fun?

Name: Clarity Valkynheim

Age: 19

Appearance: http://i26.mangareader.net/akame-ga-kiru/1/akame-ga-kiru-2637895.jpg

Personality: A calm, composed and cynical girl who never fails to look down upon her enemies. She always insists on doing things her own way, and will rarely bow to the will of other people. Deep down inside, however, she believes in the potential of human beings, and will fight to prove her point when challenged.

Bio: Clarity is the daughter of Flavro Valkynheim, one of the more famed generals in O.D.I.N's forces. She was raised and trained to be a soldier and eventually succeed her father one day, but it was soon clear to everyone that she did not want to leverage on her father's rank and influence to get her way. She rapidly mastered the various types of martial arts and weapon trainings, earning her right to own an Aethir by her fourteenth birthday. She quickly grew a reputation of being a very demanding and strict commander to her soldiers, although she never failed to produce results. The forces under her quickly grew into being one of the more recognized units, and she even grew daring enough to challenge her father to a duel one day. The giant of a man simply laughed and accepted her challenge, where he soundly defeated her before the first minute ended.

Nevertheless, Clarity was only filled with renewed determination, and began intensive training with her Aethir in order to improve her skills and surpass her father one day. Unlike her father, she has never cared much for the ideals of O.D.I.N or the people who rule over it. She acts solely based on what she thinks is right. Although she is still in the process of searching for her role in life, perhaps something will emerge one day that will question everything that has been taught to her to be true.

Aethir: Sigrun Norn

Description: An Aesir that normally looks like a black suit and skirt combination when deactivated, the Sigrun Norn is one of the more powerful Aesirs that O.D.I.N. has in its arsenal. When activated, it emanates a constant, radiant glow that repels most projectile attacks and causes anyone who dares to approach the divine suit to have their movements slowed. Four wings made of energy will also materialize behind Clarity, granting her superhuman speed and the ability to fly.

When the Sigrun is activated, it also allows Clarity to summon two fencing blades: Laevateinn and Mystleteinn. Laevateinn is actually a series of small blades held together by a central rope and electromagnetism, and can be extended at Clarity's will, which would turn it into a bladed whip weapon with surprising reach. It is also capable of overcharging its electrical systems to deliver a deadly shock to whoever it manages to trap in its blades. Mystleteinn possesses six barrels along its hilt which can be discharged either to buff Clarity's allies or hinder her enemies. Each barrel has a different effect and can be either used repeatedly in small doses or released in one large strike.

Name: Pharos Sirius

Age: 28

Appearance: http://imgur.com/d1JQd0y

Personality: Narcissistic, self absorbed and overly eager to "experiment", Pharos makes almost anyone around her feel uncomfortable, a fact the she enjoys mirthfully. She believes herself superior to all others, especially unmodified humans, and pretty much insults anyone she speaks to, save her superiors. Only truly happy when experimenting on others, it is testament to the corruption and/or blindness of Asgard to have assigned her as the Director of Research. While most soldiers urge her to stay back at the lab, she prefers a more hands-on approach, and will not hesitate to get her hands dirty to get what she wants. And she always gets what she wants.

Bio:

Pharos is an alfar, a genetically modified human with the appearance of the fabled elves in tales of old, designed for intelligence and to better integrate and understand the technology in Midgard. Used extensively as research personnel and technicians, alfars are unmatched in their aptitude for technology and are many times smarter than the average human.

To prevent the alfars from overthrowing them however, their Asgardian overlords implanted a tiny, almost hidden genetic implant in every alfar ever bred, allowing them to assume direct control over any alfar and force them to obey their commands. Kept a secret for generations, Pharos was the first alfar who discovered this implant. Enraged by this, she seeked to find a way to free her people from this mind control. However, she knew that openly going against her masters was going to accomplish nothing. Instead, she secretly experimented on herself and tried to remove her own implant, a procedure that changed her life. Although she was successful breaking their grip over her, it almost cost her her life and warped her personality, causing her to become a sadistic monster who would stop at nothing to see her people be the true rulers of Midgard.

Knowing that such a procedure would have been too risky for the other alfars to undergo, she worked her way up the Asgardian hierarchy, bribing and blackmailing her way closer and closer to her true goal: the master signal code, kept in the Asgardian Overlord's office. Only with the code can she permanently disable the implants and allow her people to claim their rightful place, as the ruling class of Midgard.

Aesir: Novus Freyja

An elegant Aesir, in its unactivated form, it takes the shape of an ornate old fashioned robe, modelled after the fabled magicians of the past. Activated, it becomes a full body gown, with glowing lines trailing around it and elaborate holographic armor pieces floating around it, along with a monocle shaped visor that displays statistics on the battlefield and in combat. Its most distinguishing feature however is its four blade-like wings sticking out from the user's back. On command, they can be launched and can independently operate in combat, providing useful support like creating forcefields or blasting enemies with particle beams.

If need be, she can summon her Godhand, Gambanteinn. Taking the shape of an innocuous book, this tome is actually a high tech weapon that can manipulate the electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere, allowing her the power over magnetism and even create lightning bolts if necessary. As a bonus feature, it can also integrate with almost all of Midgard's functions, allowing her to manipulate Midgard itself to help herself or hinder her enemies.

Etc:

Hel: An artificially created pet, Hel was Pharos' first ever creation, created in a genetics class when she was young. Her only true companion, Hel is probably the only living being that she shows her soft side to.
