[Discussion] Sorcerers II: The Sorcery-ing

131 posts in this topic

I'll work on HH's team then. Also, Leon is locked and loaded.

Name: Leon Browning

Affiliation: Champion of Elaine Enfield

Age: 29

Appearance: Tall, gangly blond guy with a seemingly perpetual five-o-clock shadow. Never seen without his hat or his canvas trench coat -- clearly he thinks he's a movie spy.

Personality: Calm, jocular, easy-going. Likes to trade barbs with others, and spends way too much time reading comic books when not murdering people for money.

Gifts and Abilities:

Leon possesses three Gifts. The first of his Gifts is of uncertain provenance, and was used during his mercenary days, while the second two are Gifts from Elaine.

Soldier of Fortune: An ordinary-looking briefcase. However, when opened, it reveals that it is far larger on the inside, thanks to a series of Conjuration enchantments that link it to a hidden safe house with a portal. Leon keeps his vast array of weapons and devices hidden within, ready to be withdrawn at a moment's notice.

Master of Puppets: His second Gift, concealed as a wristwatch. When activated, it allows him to conjure extremely thin, strong wires that extend and retract at will, with adhesive tips similar to a gecko's foot pads, allowing them to stick to any surface. Leon uses them for his signature technique -- Wire Fu, which is exactly what it sounds like.

Ace of Spades: A pair of P-90 sub machine guns. Now, using two SMGs simultaneously is usually a stupid idea, but these weapons have a curious property: they have been modified with laser sights, and the moment a target has been tagged by the laser for around a second, every single bullet fired from them will strike at the marked point, even if the target moves or finds cover. The effect will only last until the magazine is depleted or he acquires a different target, but with 50 rounds in each gun, that may take a while.

Transcend: Battery - Leon combines his three Gifts, temporarily replacing his body with cybernetics which greatly enhance his physical capabilities. Six remote-controlled waldos unfold from his back, each capable of wielding one of his many weapons or grappling and striking opponents, and he gains the ability to imbue all his weapons with Ace of Spades' target-seeking capabilities.

Bio: Leon Browning is known within Sorcerer circles as a problem-solver, someone who disposes of rogue magic users (or rival Sorcerers) for a price. Some regard him as a mere hitman, but he holds to his own code of honor: Firstly, his loyalty will lie with the first bidder. Secondly, he will not involve Normals on a job. Thirdly, if he's been double-crossed, he will hunt down his employer and make an example of him.

Elaine gained his loyalty a year before the War began, and they have been making preparations for the battle to come since then.

If I join, should I have a contender or vassal? Any thoughts?

The current lineup is as follows:

Team Loves Dead People

Contender/Vassal: Sanzi

Vassal/Champion(s): Alisyn

Team Nominally The Good Guys

Contender/Champion: HH

Vassal/Champion: Me

Team Ominous German Chanting

Contender/???: Timey

I recommend Vassals or Champions, solely because a Contender player has to be prepared to die if the plot wills it, whereas a Vassal could lose the war but survive anyway.

Name: Adeline Mae Harrington, "Maleficent"

Status: Contender

Age: 25

Personality: Adeline believes that the age of magic is long over, and in order to properly rule over the world today, one must acknowledge the existence of two other great powers: technology and money. She has spent her life seeking after the acquisition of these three great powers, and with them, maintain a firm grip over her own little world as she consolidated her strength for the great war. Adeline possesses no morals whatsoever, but believes in prim and proper professionalism and courtesy, even when dealing with your mortal enemies. She is extremely intelligent and cunning, and often rely on outwitting her enemies instead of sheer brute force in order to defeat them.

Appearance:

Specialty: Evocation -- Adeline holds control over the power of Light, being able to fire off powerful lasers with the flick of her finger. She was born unnaturally gifted in evocation, to the point that her body naturally radiates magical light from the sheer volume of magic she holds within. Despite this immense power, however, Adeline believes that over-reliance on one aspect will lead to your downfall, and prefers to defeat her enemies without using her magical abilities if possible. She is also skilled in a specific form of Transmutation - that is, the ability to convert her whole body into light.

Weakness: Prestidigitation --  Adeline believes that there are other ways to win over the hearts and minds of men without having to resort to magic.

Abilities: Fighting Style -- Don't be fooled by Adeline's frail figure and naturally passive disposition - she is known in underground circles as "Maleficent", a vicious hand-to-hand combatant that can leave a seasoned soldier bloodied on the ground in less than a minute. To maintain control over Phoenixcorp, she has repeatedly proven herself as being more capable than any of her soldiers in close combat, and have earned all of their respect through this manner.

Radiance -- Adeline's overwhelming capacity for magic radiates off of her body in waves, manifesting in the form of a constant backdrop of rainbow light wherever she walks. If necessarily, she can intensify this light to scorching levels without being harmed herself.

Final Spark -- At the flick of her finger, Adeline can fire off scorching lasers that are capable of melting through concrete.

Pyrotechnics -- Light can be used to produce many effects, from creating optical illusions to blinding everyone foolish enough to set their eyes on her with a flashbang.

Ascension -- Adeline's coup de grace, her ability to turn her own body into light renders her nearly invulnerable to all conventional means of attack. In this state, she can travel at the speed of light, scatter her presence over a large area, or hop from one light source to another.

Background: Despite being born into an incredibly wealthy family, Adeline Mae Harrington was considered as an outcast by her parents for being able to use magic, and was thrown out of the house at the age of 5. After wandering the streets for two weeks, she was taken in by an underground fighter who took pity on her and raised her to be his successor. She lived as a nomad for the next 5 years, joining in fighting tournaments across the country along with her adoptive father in order to make enough money to live each day. At the age of 10, she received news that her birth parents had abruptly died of a plane crash, and having left behind no will, Adeline inherited everything they owned.

Using the money that she inherited, she set up several companies under false names which took off because of her razor-sharp wit and business sense, including an international arms dealer as well as a firm that acted as a private military contractor. All of these companies would later merge together under a common name: Phoenixcorp Pte Ltd, one of the largest providers of weapons and arms to the various world powers. Phoenixcorp's motto was embodied in its representative animal: "Rebirth Through Destruction". They believed that through the weapons they produced, they would be able to create a new, better society from the ashes, remolding the world into a better place.

Now, at the age of 25, Adeline believes that she has attained the three great powers that control the world today: Magic, Technology and Money. With these three under her control, she is certain that no one will be able to stand in her way to become Lord of the Cosmos.

Name: Maria Yang Ye
Affiliation: Champion of Adeline Mae Harrington
Age: 16
Appearance: A teenaged girl with a perpetual smile and a large scythe behind her back.
Personality: She is rarely seen in public, only appearing where Adeline sends her. She seems to have a permanent smile plastered to her face, and eyewitnesses have seen her referring to Adeline as "Maman". Their age gap hardly allows the possibility of Adeline being her mother, so several theories have begun to emerge regarding their relationship.

Gifts and Abilities:

Maria possesses only one visible Gift, even though she has been seen to demonstrate up to two abilities. Whether she has any more abilities remains a mystery.

Reaper - Maria's enormous scythe is as large as herself, and possesses an incredibly sharp edge. She has been known to slice through thick concrete pillars without much trouble.

Blink - Maria can teleport across short distances without any prior warning, making it seem as though she is flitting about the battlefield.

Bio: Maria Yang Ye's history is not known to any living human. She has no personal records in any country's database, and has no permanent residence anywhere.

Lucky for you, Alisyn is also being help up with her characters!

Also, @Shadow, since I missed the question apparently: either would be fine. If you do decide to join, either make your own Contender or join Time, whichever you prefer.

I give up. D;

Name: Etiennette Beauchene
Status: Vassal
Age: 38
Personality: Sadistic, ruthless, loyal
Appearance: Here, I guess
Specialty: Prestidigitation (Illusions)
Weakness: Transmutation
Abilities:
Fighting Style: Etiennette is a master of illusion, capable of creating images that anyone would swear were real. She prefers to learn the weaknesses/fears of her opponents to devise personalized nightmares that cow the more weak-minded into submission.
The Infinite Army: Etiennette can summon a vast number of illusory bodies with which to overwhelm her opponents. However, while illusory, the beings she creates cannot inflict harm nor take harm from normal attacks themselves (though she can imbue them with fragments of her power in Evocation to give their attacks substance), so this is often used in conjunction with her Champions' Shattersouls.
Soulreaver: Given the time and resources, Etiennette can extract the soul of a living person and force it to her will, adding it to the amalgam of her Champions in order to strengthen them.
The Labyrinth: By Linking with Ian, Etiennette gains access to his vast mental capabilities, giving her the ability to construct the Labyrinth. The Labyrinth is an ability that targets all of the victim's senses, through her illusions, and mind, through Ian’s mental powers. When trapped in the Labyrinth, all illusions are perceived as real by the victim's brain, effectively making it respond to any illusory damage taken by the host. Despite there being no physical repercussions, the damage dealt to one's mind can be severe and can even lead to the brain shutting down.
Background: Etiennette was always a somewhat sadistic child, interested in torturing things and watching them die. As she grew, her tastes grew more dangerous, from bugs to kittens and further. The first humans she experimented on when she was 14 were her own parents, who tried to check her tendencies with beatings and other punishments, to no avail. Unlike her previous victims, something ethereal fled the bodies upon their deaths, and she was determined to learn what it was. Drawing in other men was easy with sidelong looks and shy promises, and she refined her skill with many before learning how to capture and subjugate the soul.

Ian's father found the young lady soon after and invited her to his home, keeping her with promises of raw materials, and he fulfilled them lavishly, allowing her to craft her two Champions from an amalgam of the souls she had collected during her time with the Rosses. In appreciation of Ian's father's patronage of her "art," Etiennette willingly volunteered to be Ian's Vassal in the upcoming War, though she hopes to survive it to continue her work.

Name: Tenebrae
Status: Champion
Age: Unknown
Personality: None, entirely loyal to Etiennette
Appearance: Varies according to last vessel possessed
Specialty: Conjuration (Weapons)
Weakness: Evocation
Abilities:
Shattersoul: This Gift, in the form of a pendant, allows the souls that make up the Champion to be divided to occupy any bodies that have low resistance to possession. When used with Etiennette's illusory army, the illusory bodies will turn corporeal when possessed, but the soul can leave at any time or when the corporeal body is defeated. Dividing will diminish the Champion's power linearly based on how much it divides. The Gift must be invoked again to return to the amalgamated soul form.
Whistling Woe: Through the Gift of what seems to be a stick of wood, Tenebrae has the ability to summon and use four different weapons with great skill: a warhammer, a sword, a spear, and a bow, depending on his enemy. The strength of its attacks depends on how much it is divided among bodies.
Transcend: Upon Transcending, Tenebrae turns into a giant berserker, incapable of feeling pain and possessing immense strength. It can only Transcend when all the souls reside within one corporeal body.
Background: Both Tenebrae and Lumiera are the products of Etiennette's many long years of research. As good Champions were hard to find, she attempted to create her own by obtaining accomplished sorcerers and warriors, often those discarded as not good enough by the Ross family. Upon receiving them, Etiennette would confine them to dark dungeons where she tortured them to the extent that they completely forgot their identities and lost all reason. Then, using secret arts, she bound their souls to her will, collecting them into two amalgamations to create Tenebrae, which had a physical combat focus, and Lumiera, which focused on magical combat.

Name: Lumiera
Status: Champion
Age: Unknown
Personality: None, entirely loyal to Etiennette
Appearance: Varies according to last vessel possessed
Specialty: Evocation (Elemental Magic)
Weakness: Conjuration
Wrath of the Gods: Through the Gift of what appears to be a simple crystal, Lumiera has the ability to summon and use the four main elemental powers: wind, water, fire, and earth. The strength of its attacks depends on how much it is divided among bodies.
Transcend: Upon Transcending, Lumiera turns into an elemental embodiment of its choice, capable of commanding all existences (sentient and not) that fall under that element's domain in the area.

Contender first, followed by Champion. I spent 2 whole days thinking of this. 2 days and 3 nights I think.

Name: Zhu Kunru
Age: only 67

Personality: Kunru is a man of few words at first glance. He is foreboding, surprisingly toned for his age and speaks in a deep voice. However, if you actually talk to him, you'll find that his eyes sparkle as he politely greets you -- even if you are an enemy -- and that he is a person who readily expresses his emotions. He gushes at cute animals, sheds tears at scenes of vileness or violence and is an all around pleasant guy to be with. In addition, his favourite colour is pink. And he will never be seen wearing the same shirt to two different battles. However, one should not mistake his gentle demeanour for weakness. He is intelligent and highly principled, and when he sets his sight on a goal, he will pursue it relentlessly.

His purpose for joining this war is to end all evil in the world, and in doing so, satisfy the innocent wish of a little girl.

Appearance: http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090815150736/hokuto-no-ken/images/f/ff/Ewtrey.JPG

Specialty: Transmutation. He is a staunch believer in qi (as well as yin and yang, and the power of herbal soups). Not only is he a master of taiji, he can also see and manipulate the qi of others.
Weakness: Evocation. As they say in TCM, good medicines take gradual effects.

Abilities:
Qi Reading -- the most basic rendition of his ability, Kunru can see the conditions of the qi in everybody, thus pointing out any imbalances that may be rectified by diet or by doing moral deeds.

Qi Field -- He can cultivate the energy field of an individual, giving them enhancements far surpassing their current limitations. From a distance, he can apply pressure on various acupoints to increase the constitution of an individual (the individual will require more injuries/damage to kill him) and also to increase the speed, stamina and strength of an individual. If he is allowed to go up close to apply direct physical pressure on acupoints, he is able to create miracles of qi such as a very bendable body, or the ability to jump to great heights.

Qi Disruption -- On the other hand, by blocking the flow of qi in his enemies, he can gradually weaken their magical energy, such that their spells become greatly weakened and they tire out much more easily after fewer spells. Furthermore, their bodies also weaken and as the battle goes on, they may become more and more like just a normal human in terms of physical condition.

Slow-Acting Poison -- By tipping the balance of yin over yang, he can induce a slow-acting poison that makes a person badly sick the next day, weak and delusional. The sickness only recovers with sufficient rest for a week, or by magical intervention.

The Lethal Acupoint -- Horror stories have told of the lethal acupoints that result in heart paralysis and an excruciating death. These stories are true. If Kunru were to touch any of the dangerous spots (which can be found on the wrists, directly at the heart, and at a certain point of the back), heart paralysis may occur instantaneously.

Background:
No one could say for sure where Kunru came from. Everyone agreed on the tale: he would walk into their town one day, quiet and yet commanding attention, and then walk up to a man who was sick and dying, and say he was a fortune-teller. He would lay a bold prediction, that the man would get better tomorrow. And always, his predictions came true. When questioned, he would say that he had the power of precognition, that he could predict the future. However, the healing was the man's own doing, because the heavens favoured him for his kindness. Only people who did good deeds, he stressed, would be favoured.

He would refuse any form of compensation, but instead ask to work at a local Traditional Chinese Medicine store. No more miracles would happen. People frequented the store in hopes that they could be magically cured too, but all he did was recommend some terribly bitter herbs. And yet people who would otherwise have rejected them willingly took them this time with renewed fervour. And then they would be cured.

And in a few days, he would leave again. He can never stay in one place too long, he would say, because he must go to every part of the world. And only when he had gone to every part of the world could he protect it from evil.

Because evil was not allowed to exist in his world.

~~~
Name: Layla Davidson
Age: 11
Personality: Layla is a shy, obedient girl, the sort who doesn't speak unless spoken to. She is also the same sort that gets scared over everything. She's scared of the dark, scared of creepy-crawlies, scared of angry bad people... you name it. However, her unique circumstances have taught her that one cannot succumb to fear. She is a timid girl, but at the same time she is a brave girl. She rushes headlong into danger to defend people without a second thought, and has learnt to suppress her tears and pain, knowing that people depend on her.
Appearance: She wears her shoulder-length hair into 2 ponytails and usually wears a long-sleeved dress of dark colours, like black. She would like to dress in brighter colours, or with different hair accessories like other girls, but she knows that she must dress practically for battles. Maybe someday, when the war is over, she will have a chance to lead an ordinary life. She has a round puffy face, rather like an apple, but the rest of her body is thin.
Specialty: Prestidigitation. One part of her heightened defences is supported by Kunru's buffs, but she also adds to the resistance by psychically controlling her own mind to withstand the damage she is taking without cracking. Defence is only complete when both physical and mental aspects work as one.
Weakness: Evocation. Like Kunru, she does not understand the raw passion required to create a burst of energy.
Abilities:
Hard Like Stone Yet Soft Like Shit -- Layla has acquired the Gift to imbue both elements of hardness and softness to her body. Attacks from afar simply bounce off her body, whereas blows up close sink into her body harmlessly as if it were made of stuffing.
Janie -- Layla is never seen anywhere without her shabby rag doll, Janie, whose hair has completely dropped off due to age. Janie is a source of motivation for Layla. Kunru has also infused a Gift into Janie. If Layla is ever mentally compromised, or if her mind is controlled by an enemy, Janie will channel its consciousness into her mind and help to fend off the mental intrusion. With Janie, her mental defences are just as strong as her physical ones.
Meteor Hammer -- one of the 18 Weapons of Martial Arts, Layla was given a double-headed meteor hammer. Meteor hammers, being basically 2 weights connected to a chain, can be swung about for defensive purposes and also used for its speed attacks. While it is mainly used for melee combat, this Meteor Hammer is also Gifted with the ability to fire off ultrasonic sound waves that affect the vision of all who can hear it, resulting in her form becoming hazy and harder to focus on.
Background:
Everyone died in one day.
The Davidson family was one of the poorest families in town. They could barely get by, and ever since Layla was born, the only toy she ever had was Janie, which came out of her mother's sewing machine. They lived in the slums, where drunk people would sometimes brawl and riot. This time, a drunken man had barged into their house and killed her parents and her elder sister while trying to extort money. They died huddled around Layla, protecting her. The drunk man had not the focus and energy to prise 3 corpses away to get at the hidden, crying little girl.
Layla had only burdened her family. They had tried to run away, but she couldn't run as fast as the older people, which was why they had stayed behind to die for her sake instead. From then on, she wanted nothing more than to prevent anyone else from meeting the same fate. She wanted to be stronger, so that she never had to see such a ghastly scene again. She would be the one protecting people.
And then she met Kunru. He promised her that when he won this war, he would ensure that evil no longer existed in the world. She didn't believe him, but she was glad to be able to protect him. Even though he resisted, she finally persuaded him to let her be his Champion. She worked hard at kungfu, and mastering qi, and he decided that there was no use trying to refuse this quiet, reserved, fiery girl.
I have 5 of 9 infinites and I think a group of five champions figured out. A first name, part of the history, most of his personality. Overall, I'm almost done.
Name: Shorne Armanite (The Infinity Ward)
Status: Vassal/Contender
Age: 37
Appearance: (pending)
Specialty: Conjuration/Evocation- Shorne is skilled in the art of summons. Through his use of summons he can channel their power through him and use Evocation as well, but his strongest skills and evocation are dependent on Conjuration.
Weakness: Prestidigitation- Shorne has no affinity for psychic abilities in the least. What he lacks in that field his champions and summons try to make up for it. His Transmutation skill are average.
Abilities: The Nine Infinities- Shorne wields the inherited power of The Nine Infinities that belong to the Infinity Ward, tasked with maintaining balance between worlds and dimensions, as well as dealing with all of the most heinous of entities that roam. Passed down from one Infinity Ward to the next, the Nine Infinities is the contract with the nine eternal "gods" to use their power to carry out the duties.
Event Horizon- This ability connects the Infinity Ward's mind to the previous lives and events of others before. It is a result of having sealed the Event Horizon in a previous life. Shorne is able to receive all prior knowledge and wisdom of his predecessors.
Summons: 1st Infinity-Rebellion: The ability to rebel against the law of physics. This summon takes the form of something similar to a black and blue cube made of smaller cubes, each cube able to move independently.
2nd Infinity-Alias: The ability to bend the five senses. This Summon rarely has a definitive form, but in it's purest form is merely a black shadow like entity.
3rd Infinity-Caster:
4th Infinity-Guardian: The ability to guard against all forms of physical attacks. This summon takes the form of a large, eight foot black and white humanoid.
5th Infinity-Calamity: The ability to cause misfortune and disaster to all things that try to attack the wielder. This summon generally isn't seen by the eye, but is know to take the form a large black cat.
6th Infinity-Angel:The ability to heal and recover, as well as purge darkness. This summon takes the form of a black and white angel with six three panels of wings.
7th Infinity-Sin:The ability to draw form the darkness from a persons heart and memories and summon forth demons equal to the power of the seven sins found in the person. This summon will take the form of one of the seven deadly sins, changing between at any moment based on which sin is most powerful based on the environment.
8th Infinity-:
9th Infinity-Relinquished:The ability to draw forth the pure energy from the Event Horizon, but at the cost of relinquishing something equal to the value of the energy drawn out. this summon takes the form of a large eerie gate found in anime with skulls and fire that usually leads somewhere evil.
(Abilities can only be used one at a time, and must be switched out to use another. Summons can only be brought forth one at a time. The only exception is Relinquished.)
Personality: Shorne is a very righteous man. He seeks to always do what his finds is right in his mind. He is kind, caring, and quick to trust. He will go to the ends of the earth for someone he cares about, but his enemies suffer his wrath. He isn't as stubborn as he thinks, but when is heart is set he gets the job done. Shorne is very level headed most of the time, but certain things push his buttons and he can't help himself. This often conflicts with his duty. As the Infinity Ward, he is supposed to fight the evil, but also maintain balance between the two. This often means staying out of certain conflicts. Half good-half bad. that is balance. However, Shorne struggles with this concept as his righteous nature drives him to take action.
History: Shorne grew up in an orphanage. He was treated like dirt and always kicked around for being such a low class. The moment he was old enough, he began schooling, but regardless of the equality of the school, he was too often the object of scorn. He always had excellent grades as well as physical abilities, but it still didn't help his position. This continued into high school until he was sixteen. He obtained the contract of the Nine Infinities and brutally beat a gang of eight students who had called him out to do him more physical harm. Rumors spread of the incident, but he was never prosecuted by the school board. After that, he was never bothered by anyone again, but neither did he make friends. Not long after he gained the broke the seal of the Event Horizon and gained the memories of the past Wards after unlocking all nine Infinities. He learned of the duty of the Infinity ward, tasked with protecting the balance of good and bad in the world. He began to travel and help others, gaining friends, allies, followers, and ever companions. Though he has selected very few people to travel with him, he chose even fewer to stay with him. The individuals chosen have become his loyal champions and dear friends. but in a class that couldn't use magic. Though the school tried to make things equal between the classes, there was clear discrimination between those of royalty, nobility, and the peasants. If you couldn't use magic, you were the lowest as a peasant. He grew up in the lowest class.
At the cliched age of sixteen, Shorne obtained the contract of the Nine Infinities, slowly unlocking each contract as he grew stronger. From then on, he trained with his magic to rise to power and pull himself from the dirt he'd always lived in, using his new talents to aid those in need. At the age of twenty, the seal on the Event Horizon broke and that was when he became aware of the true meaning of his duties as the Infinity Ward. Since then, he has traveled between worlds an dimensions for his tasks. Along the way, he has picked up many followers, friends, allies, and even companions. He has selected very few permanent companions, but those who joined him became his champions and aid him as well as enjoy the journey along side him. (subject to change at will of author)
Weapon: Cuirassé Eager Cleaver- A large claymore forged using transmutation and other magics specifically for use by Amora. Among other properties, one characteristic is the incredible weight it has.
Gift/Abilities: Guardian's Shield- A near invisible force controlled by Amora's will granted to her by the (badass but totally cliche) fingerless gloves she wears. The force effects everything that comes in contact with it and she can manipulate it easily and freely within a six meter radius. It's capabilities vary from repelling, stopping, destroying, disintegrating, and other things based on her will.
Titan's Wrath- This is a natural ability that increases her physical strength and durability, as well as her stamina. This makes her an effective "tank" combined with her Eager Cleaver.
Just checking, is Shorne native to Earth? Sure doesn't look like it, since he grew up in a distinctively un-Earthlike setting.
And that's technically against the spirit of the War, since letting someone not from Earth win control of its magic is like Obama selling America's nuclear arsenal to a bunch of shady Kazakhs.
(THANKS OBAMA)
And now you know the plot of my upcoming Tom Clancy-style thriller.
